Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. It's one special day carved out in the calendar that demands us to press pause on our fast-paced lives, and be grateful for all of the moving pieces that make up our own personal journey.

The Art of Being Thankful everyday is connected to willingly embracing positivity and making the conscious choice to shift our mindset and the lens of which we look through to be one of gratitude rather than lack.

However, this can be easier said than done. With life's ups and downs, we frequently get caught up in negative thought patterns, and often focus on the hardships across all facets of our lives that we are facing at that point in time, like:

"Why can't I look like him or her?"

"How did I get stuck in this 9-5 monotonous job?"

"Why isn't my relationship working the way that I planned?"

The Art of Being Thankful requires an evolution of your perspective that only YOU can control. This shift in your perspective can be extremely powerful, and involves a movement of your thoughts away from the negatives, toward noticing the things we often overlook or take for granted each and every day.

For this example, let's use the questions listed above with positive affirmations, like:

"Why can't I look like him or her?"

Because I am meant to be a unique human being with the capacity to make the most of the physical gifts I have been given. I have the power to promote my own physical health and I am going to take the necessary steps to work on it. If I can breathe, then I am alive--and for that, I am grateful.

"How did I get stuck in this 9-5 monotonous job?"

Because my former path has led me here, and I am capable of changing directions if I decide to take the appropriate steps to seek out a new and improved opportunity. Because I was selected for this position thanks to my expertise and potential, and I am making a living as best I can--and for that, I am grateful.

"Why isn't my relationship working?"

Because I am choosing to stay in a position that may not be best for me, and I have the power to make a change. Or because I am choosing to work on a bond that I have put time, energy and dedication into over the years with many happy memories and a future ahead if I communicate better with my partner, and for that--I am grateful.

You see, every single day we can choose happiness, or the alternative. Every single day we have the opportunity to choose light over darkness, and create action plans that help us achieve our own personal goals.

This Thanksgiving, I invite you to practice the Art of Being Thankful--and be grateful to be you.
